How do I take good care?
Have you found yourself asking this question?
This was a question that, at the time, I didn’t know how to ask. I knew I wanted to live better than I was, but I didn’t know what questions I was really trying to ask and what problem actually needed solving.
I knew i wanted to feel better in my body, to feel more empowered and confident in my choices and I knew I wanted to think better about by myself. At the time of beginning to search for answers and ask questions, I was most focused on changing my eating choices and habits, my exercise habits, and overall ‘wellness’ habits.
But having been disconnected from myself on a deep and intimate level, being young, living in our modern world, and other personal factors that influence us, I went searching for things outside of myself that could give me a rulebook for how to get from A to B.
I thought diets and rules were the answer ; that people and programs and rules outside of myself would have better answers for me on how I could live well, than the answers that I, myself, hold inside of me.
So, I followed rules. I tried every diet, every exercise program, atomic habits, working more jobs, spending more time grinding, going to school to learn how to ‘health better’ and ultimately disconnecting even further from myself. I spent years, and years.. working against myself.
& it’s not all bad. Although in many ways I was making life harder for myself than it needed to be, I was eager to do better, and willing to do what ever it took. Maybe I didn’t know how, or what to ask, or what really needed improving on, but I knew that I was going to get where I was going simply because I decided so and was dedicated to that decision.
After all of this living out of alignment, treating my symptoms but never the root, my health began bringing itsself to my attention in ways I couldn’t ignore.
Despite ‘doing everything right’, I wasn’t well and this wasn’t working.
I was thrown into the world of holistic wellbeing and living; a way of life that actually wasn’t so hard. I knew that I could heal my wellbeing and my lifes auroa naturally, and the online holistic wellness space was proving it to me. Until this point in my journey, I wasn’t familiar with the holistic space. Although, my journey did technically start there, until the noise of the world caught me.
It has been a lot of learning, but with time, we grow.
Soon after embarking on a deeper more complex journey, I instead of asking questions like: ‘ how can i lose weight’ and ‘how do i get abs and stop being lazy’, I began to see that what I was really wanting to ask was ‘how I can be someone who doesn’t store excess, and be the most well, the most effortlessly’.
and i started trading ‘how do i get rid of cystic acne’ to ‘ what are the factors in my life contributing to my acne & hormones related to my acne, and how can I begin to improve those, while also finding a natural solution to help combat the symptoms from those imbalances?’
I started to see that the question I was seeking an answer for was actually:
how can i understand myself so I can take the best care of me?
Along my journey, there has largely been lots of trial and error, as this journey mainly is a dedication to doing your best, to learnign yourself, and being patient while it unfolds. You can’t rush meeting yourself, and there is no place we get to where the ‘work’ is done. Not in a daunting way, but in ‘ we are always evolving and adapting and that makes life full of suprise and brilliance’ kind of way.
If you’re coming from a path similar to mine, maybe something you’re starting to ask is ‘ how do i take better care??’ “what does it mean to take care of mysself?
While I can’t show you an exact road map or list of how to live and what to do in order to achieve your most wholistically optimal pinwheel of wellness and life, I can assist you in exoloring new ideas and concepts around living well and taking good care, and offer inspiration, insight, and gentle nudges that we sometimes all need so we don’t have to get more de-railed off path than necessary (and yes, some of it is necessary, and to different levels for everyone).
Through my own healing and my journey with reconnecting to mind, body, and soul (or spirit, lifeforce, creator, etc), I was blessed with the clarity that part of my purpose was to hurt so I could heal, giving me the resources to help others heal too.
I have put together some questions below that may help you discover some answers or begin to scratch some surface for you in finding what it means to take good care of you and how you can do so.
I hope that this article brought you something that you needed. I look forward to seeing you soon.
